Program Name: FPIC Training

LINKS in collaboration with PT Swakarsa Sinarsentosa (Dharma Satya Nusantara) conducted FPIC and Conflict Resolution Negotiation Trainingtraining for the plantation management, plantation staffs and sustainability staffs who came from its headquarter as well as the subsidiaries in the region of West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan. The FPIC Training was held at the headquarter of PT Swakarsa Sinarsentosa in Jakarta, on May 16 to May 18, 2016.

In this training, LINKS hadbeen delivered materials to improve the understanding of the plantation management and field staffs of DSN on FPIC, which includes:

  1. Important elements of FPIC (Free, Prior and Informed Consent),
  2. Interconnection FPIC with the RSPO and ISPO,
  3. FPIC in relation to the social and global environment issues,
  4. Status of indigenous peoples in national and international laws,
  5. Sharing the implementation practices based on the 2015FPIC RSPO guidelines which includes: a) Activity of scoping the social risks of project development (Pre-FPIC activity), b) Engage with the community representatives to deliver initial information related to the project development plan, c) FPIC in relation to the participative social and environmental assessment (Land Tenure Study, SEIA, HCVA and HCSA), d) Public Consultation, e) Negotiation and development of land acquisition agreements, f) Monitoring and Evaluation.
  6. Negotiation of land conflicts and other social conflicts settlements.

In addition, based on the case study in the development of palm oil plantations of PT Swakarsa Sinarsentosa’s subsidiaries, had also been developed discussions related to the challenges and obstacles of FPIC implementation and the Follow-Up Work Plan which will be submitted as a proposal to PT Swakarsa Sinarsentosa management.
